Leaving Nakuru we travel along the Great Rift Valley, taking in the scenery en route to our lodge in Maasai Mara National Reserve. After lunch late afternoon, we setoff on a game drive in the world-famous game reserve. This is one of the best game viewing destinations in the world, considered the heartland of authentic African safaris. Returning to the lodge we have dinner and relax after our first game drive in Kenya, East Africa. As the only safari lodge in the famed Mara Triangle, they offer a setting matched by few other hotels in the world, perched high on a bush-cloaked hill with sweeping views of the savannah and the meandering shoreline of the Mara River.

The whole of day two and three is set aside for game viewing in Maasai Mara. The iconic plains of Maasai Mara are home to more than 450 species of wild animals, including the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. Today you experience the wild savannahs of Africa encountering an abundance of wildlife, including hippos, wild dogs, crocodiles, wildebeest, zebras, hyenas, giraffes, jackals and many more creatures. Maasai Mara is best known for the spectacular wildlife migration that sees millions of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and other herbivores stampeding across the plains and rivers. Every year this mass migration, known as the Great Migration, attracts a host of predators along the migratory route between Kenya’s Maasai Mara and the Serengeti National Park, in Tanzania.

Rise and shine for breakfast at lodge, before we drive to the Isebania Border Post and crossinto Tanzania. The Serengeti shares the same ecosystem with the Maasai Mara game reserve. Ideally Maasai Mara is the smaller extension of the Serengeti. Forming part of the same ecosystem as Mara, the Serengeti Plains also offer the quintessential African savannah setting, only more vast than the Kenyan counterpart, at 14 763 km².After our game drive, we have dinner at Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp where we overnight.

This day is set aside for exploring the legendary Serengeti National Park on game drives. This massive wildlife reserve is famous for the same annual migration as Maasai Mara, whereby over a million herbivores move south from the northern to the southern plains of Serengeti, in the short rainy season (October and November), returning north after the long rainy season (April to June). Serengeti Park offers superb wildlife viewing year-round, so we should see plenty of plains game and predators roaming the grasslands. At the end of the day, we return to Kati Kati Tented Camp for dinner and another overnight stay.

This morning we embark on an early morning game drive in Serengeti National Park, before having breakfast back at the lodge. Then we make our way to Olduvai Gorge, a deep ravine in the East African Rift Valley. En route we stop for a picnic lunch and enjoy game viewing. The gorge features one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites, hosting some of the earliest fossils of our humanoid ancestors. We visit the Olduvai Gorge Museum to see the excavated remains of our ancestors, with Homo erectus remains that date as far back as1.2 million years ago. From Olduvai, we continue to Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge where we have dinner and spend the night.

On day eight we enjoy breakfast early in the morning and dip some 600m down into the crater for an action-packed day of game viewing in this wildlife paradise. Our 4×4 game drive takes us through the diverse habitats of the crater floor, where we encounter a variety of wild animals. While in the crater we have a picnic lunch. The Ngorongoro Crater is renowned for its high concentration of animals, with most wildlife species represented here. Due to the high density of animal populations, we are likely to see an excellent array of animals in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ascending the crater walls after our game viewing adventure, we return to Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge for dinner and our last overnight stay.

Today we bid farewell to Ngorongoro Crater after enjoying our breakfast and head south west to one of Africa’s little known gem in northern Tanzania, Tarangire national park. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park and is the primary source of fresh water for wild animals in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the annual dry season. During the dry season thousands of animals concentrate in this park from the surrounding wet-season dispersal and calving areas. You will arrive at the lodge by mid-day, check-in and have lunch before taking some short rest. Later you will venture out into the park to enjoy some exciting game drive before driving back to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Tarangire Sopa Lodge.

Today we set off for a full day game drive to explore the park’s beautiful landscape characterized by open plains, swamps, majestic baobab trees and riverine forest, with the dramatic backdrop of the Ol Donyo Lengai volcano in the distance. We hope to encounter a large congregation of African Elephants, pride of Lions, cheetahs, a substantial population of White-bearded Wildebeest, Zebra, Impala, Giraffe, giant Eland and Cape Buffalo as well, and even a few localized and unusual species including the Gerenuk and Fringe-eared Oryx. We might also have a chance to see the 3 endemic bird species found in this park i.e. the Ashy Starling, Yellow-colored lovebird and Rufous-tailed Weaver. Late afternoon after the game drive you will eventually head back to lodge for dinner and overnight.

Our final morning in Tanzania starts with a leisurely time for breakfast before we travel to Amboseli. We take packed lunches along with us from the lodge to enjoy en route. Drive to the Amboseli National Park via the Namanga Kenya / Tanzania border town. The park romantically situated in the foot hills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is famous for its tremendous variety of big game, is home to Elephant, Wildebeest(Gnu), Buffalo, Gazelle, Lion, Cheetah, monkey families and rare bird species. In the early evenings and mornings, the clouds may clear, exposing the snow–capped dome of the Mount Kilimanjaro. Dinner and overnight at Kibo Safari Camp.

Our final safari day starts with breakfast followed by a morning game drive in the park. Amboseli offers opportunities such as viewing large herds of Elephants, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Big Five, visiting the Observation Hill which allows an overall view of the whole park especially the swamps and elephants, Swamp below observation hill hosts many elephants, buffaloes, hippos and a variety of water fowls like pelican, Egyptian goose, contemporary Maasai culture and indigenous lifestyle. After our morning game drive we will embark on our journey back to Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in time for your flight back home.
