Day 1: 

Arrival in Kigali Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by your guide who will transfer you to your hotel for an overnight stay. Depending on your arrival time, you can explore Kigali and visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial or the local markets.

Day 2: 

Nyungwe Forest National Park After breakfast, you’ll drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is home to over 300 bird species. You’ll spend the day birding on the various trails, where you’ll spot several special bird species such as the Red-collared Babbler, Grauer’s Swamp Warbler, and Kungwe Apalis. You’ll also have the chance to spot primates such as the Colobus Monkey and Chimpanzee. You’ll spend the night at a lodge within the park.

Day 3: 

Canopy Walk and Waterfall Hike After breakfast, you’ll go for the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk, which is a 160-meter long suspension bridge that offers stunning views of the forest canopy and a chance to spot several bird species such as the White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, and the Rwenzori Turaco. After the canopy walk, you’ll go for a waterfall hike to see the beautiful Kamiranzovu Waterfall and spot bird species such as the White-starred Robin and the Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater. You’ll spend the night at a lodge within the park.

Day 4: 

Transfer to Volcanoes National Park After breakfast, you’ll drive to Volcanoes National Park, which is home to the critically endangered mountain gorillas and several bird species such as the Rwenzori Batis, the Black-billed Turaco, and the Handsome Francolin. You’ll have a stopover at Lake Kivu to spot bird species such as the Pied Kingfisher, African Fish Eagle, and the Malachite Kingfisher. You’ll spend the night at a lodge near the park.

Day 5: 

Gorilla Trekking Today is the day for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, where you’ll spend an hour in the presence of these gentle giants. While trekking, you’ll spot several bird species such as the Rwenzori Batis, the Black-billed Turaco, and the Handsome Francolin. In the afternoon, you can opt to visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village to learn about the traditional Rwandan culture. You’ll spend the night at a lodge near the park.

Day 6: 

Birding in Rugezi Swamp After breakfast, you’ll drive to Rugezi Swamp, which is home to several bird species such as the Papyrus Gonolek, the Lesser Jacana, and the Blue-headed Coucal. You’ll spend the day birding on the various trails and exploring the swamp. You’ll spend the night at a lodge near the swamp.

Day 7: 

Akagera National Park After breakfast, you’ll drive to Akagera National Park, which is home to several bird species such as the Shoebill Stork, Papyrus Gonolek, and Red-faced Barbet. You’ll spend the day birding and game driving in the park to spot several animals such as the African Elephant, Giraffe, and Hippopotamus. You’ll spend the night at a lodge within the park.

Day 8: 

Departure After breakfast, you’ll have a final birding excursion in Akagera National Park before transferring back to Kigali for your departure flight.
