This 10-day birding and wildlife safari takes you through some of northern Tanzania’s most diverse and scenic ecosystems. Beginning in Arusha, the journey allows time to relax and acclimatize before heading into Arusha National Park, where montane forests, wetlands, and grasslands host over 400 bird species alongside a variety of wildlife.

    Day 1: Arusha
    Arrival in Arusha Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and acclimatizing to the altitude.

    Day 2–3: Arusha National Park
    Arusha National Park Spend two full days exploring Arusha National Park, which is home to over 400 bird species, including some endemic and near-endemic species such as the Tanzania Red-billed Hornbill, the Abbott’s Starling, and the Schalow’s Turaco. Look out for raptors such as the African Crowned Eagle and the Martial Eagle, and enjoy birdwatching opportunities in the montane forest, grassland, and wetland habitats. In addition to birdwatching, you may also have the opportunity to see other wildlife such as giraffes, buffalos, and primates.

    Day 4-5: Tarangire National Park
    Tarangire National Park Drive to Tarangire National Park, which is known for its large herds of elephants and a diversity of bird species. Spend two full days exploring the park and looking for special birds such as the Yellow-collared Lovebird, the Ashy Starling, and the Rufous-tailed Weaver. Other interesting species include the Greater Kestrel, the Secretarybird, and the Lilac-breasted Roller. In addition to birdwatching, you will also have the opportunity to see other wildlife such as lions, leopards, and zebras.

    Day 6-7: Lake Manyara National Park
    Lake Manyara National Park Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, which is famous for its tree-climbing lions and a variety of bird species. Spend two full days exploring the park and looking for special birds such as the Lesser Flamingo, the Pink-backed Pelican, and the African Spoonbill. Other interesting species include the Narina Trogon, the Crowned Hornbill, and the Red-capped Robin Chat. In addition to birdwatching, you will also have the opportunity to see other wildlife such as elephants, buffalos, and baboons.

    Day 8-9: Ngorongoro Crater
    Ngorongoro Conservation Area Drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which is home to the famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend two full days exploring the area and looking for special birds such as the Verreaux’s Eagle, the Eastern Double-collared Sunbird, and the Black-headed Gonolek. Other interesting species include the Maasai Ostrich, the Grey-crowned Crane, and the Red-billed Oxpecker. In addition to birdwatching, you will also have the opportunity to see other wildlife such as lions, elephants, and hyenas.
