Day 1:Nairobi National Museum
Arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, transfer to Hotel, if time allows, a quick visit to Nairobi National Museums where Urban birding may be done in their grounds and surrounding area
Day 2: Tsavo West
Leave early from Nairobi, heading to Tsavo west National Park, with birding stopover along the way, the first one at Lukenya hills, some 30km from Nairobi, interesting bird species expected are: Red throated Tit (Endemic to Kenya and Tanzania) Brubru, D’Arnaud’s Barbet, Vonder Decken’s Hornbill, Abyssinian Scimitarbill, African Hoopoe, Lilac breasted Roller, Blue-naped Mousebird,White browed Coucal.
Also some sighting of mammals that migrate from Nairobi National Park like the Maasai Giraffes, Impalas, Gazelles and a variety of Monkeys. Proceed with the safari towards Hunter’s Lodge where lunch will be served, a nice and amazing area to do birding before the lunch is ready.
Bird species likely to be seen include: Giant, Malachite, Pied, Grey headed, Striped Kingfishers, Grey, Black headed Herons, Retz’s Helmet shrike, African Grey, Crowned Hornbills, African Golden,& Golden Palm Weavers. Later head to Tsavo west.
Day 3: Mzima Springs
Have early breakfast; with packed lunch slowly do birding in the park, area worthy visiting Mzima springs, where walking/birding on foot is allowed.
Checklist: Taita Falcon, Black bellied Sunbird, Red-billed Buffalo Weaver, Speckle-fronted Weaver, Chestnut Sparrow, Wattled Starling, White-naped Raven, White crested Helmet Shrike, Rosy patched Bush Shrike, Slate-colored Boubou, Taita Fiscal, Beautiful Sunbird, Hunter’s Sunbird, Rufous Chatterer, Verreaux’s Eagle Owl.
Day 4: Lake Jipe
Spend the whole day at Lake Jipe, activities include birding which will be done on dry lands and also in the Lake by boat. Birds highlights: Martial Eagle, Black bellied Bustard, Tawny Eagle, Somali Ostrich, African orange-bellied Parrot, Namaqua Dove, Temminicks Courser, Great painted Snipe, Buff crested Bustard, Lesser Moorhen, African Marsh Harrier, African Water Rail, Woolly necked Stork, Black Egret, Madagascar Pond Heron, Little Bittern, Pink backed Pelican, Spur-winged Goose.
Day 5: Taita Hills
Visit the Taita hills (Ngangao Forest) where you expect to see the Taita endemics that include Taita Thrush,Taita Apalis,Taita White Eye, Striped Pipit, Narina Trogon, Cabanis’s Greenbul, Moustached green Tinkerbird, Evergreen Forest Warbler, Northern Wheatear, White Stared Robin, Yellow throated Woodland Warbler, Olive Sunbird.
Day 6: Back to Nairobi
Drive back to Nairobi after breakfast, passing through Sasha Camp to look for a pair of African Hawk Eagle that frequent the camp. Arrive in the evening, dinner at Carnivore Restaurant then later transfer to the Airport.
