One of the things I enjoy most about guiding in East Africa is that no two days in the field are ever the same. A morning that begins with the distant calls of turacos in a misty forest can end with elephants crossing a savannah at sunset or a rare bird appearing unexpectedly along a quiet woodland trail.

East Africa remains one of the world’s great destinations for birdwatching and wildlife observation. Its incredible range of habitats – from mountain forests and wetlands to open grasslands and coastal ecosystems – supports an astonishing diversity of species. Even after years of guiding, there is always something new to discover.

Birders visiting the region are often drawn by the chance to see some of Africa’s most sought-after species. Kenya alone offers specialties such as Sharpe’s Longclaw, Hinde’s Babbler, Clarke’s Weaver, and Aberdare Cisticola, while the forests of the Albertine Rift hold remarkable birds including the Regal Sunbird, Rwenzori Turaco, and African Green Broadbill.

Of course, the experience extends well beyond birds. Encounters with Lions resting in the shade, Giraffes browsing acacia trees, or a herd of Elephants moving quietly through the landscape remind us why East Africa remains one of the most rewarding wildlife destinations on the planet.

What makes each journey memorable is not only the species seen, but also the moments in between – the changing light, the sounds of the bush, and the anticipation of what might appear around the next bend. Whether searching for a target bird or simply enjoying the region’s remarkable biodiversity, every outing offers a fresh appreciation of the natural world.

At Twinspot Tours and Travel, we look forward to sharing these experiences and helping visitors explore some of East Africa’s finest birding and wildlife destinations.
